Product Overview
Brainworx's bx_saturator V2 is a multiband M/S saturation engine designed for the technical demands of modern mixing and mastering. The plugin divides the stereo field into independent mid and side channels across four XL frequency bands, allowing surgically precise saturation control that would otherwise require multiple devices chained in series.
The core technical advantage lies in Brainworx's proprietary True Split crossover technology, which maintains phase coherence between mid and side channels - a critical consideration when manipulating stereo information at the mastering stage. This prevents the phasing artifacts that plague less sophisticated M/S implementations, resulting in mixes that remain tonally focused despite aggressive processing.
Each frequency band offers independent gain, drive, and mix controls. The gain parameter increases perceived loudness without raising actual output levels, a practical feature for competitive mastering work. The drive control provides a spectrum of saturation character, from transparent harmonic enrichment to aggressive distortion depending on user preference and frequency range. The XL (mix) control allows blending processed and unprocessed signals per band, enabling subtle integration or dramatic effect.
The included Mono Maker utility forces low frequencies into mono while preserving stereo width in the midrange and highs - a workflow efficiency tool that prevents phase cancellation issues common to dual-mono bass management. The V2 iteration brings an improved audio algorithm and AAX DSP support alongside the existing AU and VST formats.
The bx_saturator V2 appeals primarily to mastering engineers and detail-oriented mixers who require frequency-specific saturation without sacrificing phase integrity. Its technical precision and surgical capability position it among the more sophisticated saturation tools available for professional audio production.
