About this plugin
The bx_console AMEK 9099 brings Brainworx's meticulous hardware emulation methodology to one of analog console design's most refined achievements. Based on the Rupert Neve-designed Amek 9098i master console, this plugin captures the characteristic sonic warmth and musicality that defined professional mixing rooms at the turn of the millennium while adding capabilities the original hardware never possessed.
The core strength lies in its EQ section, which combines broad, forgiving curves with surgical precision. The shelving bands offer both "Sheen" and "Glow" modes for smoother tonality, while parametric sections include a dedicated "Notch" mode for targeted problem frequencies. This balance between musicality and control defines the Neve house sound - it flatters without obvious coloration.

The dynamics architecture deserves particular attention. Beyond standard compression, the plugin includes a fully variable expander, gate, and limiter with exceptionally flexible sidechain routing. The parametric EQ functions as a dynamics sidechain filter, allowing frequency-conscious dynamic control that rivals dedicated multiband compressors. An "Ambience" switch lets you hear exactly what the compressor is affecting - a practical feature often missing from plugin implementations. Brainworx added modern touches including a soft-clipping function and a Drawmer-style expander/gate absent from the original hardware, along with mono maker and stereo width controls.
This plugin suits mastering engineers, mix specialists, and producers seeking cohesive glue across full mixes without the clinical character of digital processors. Its comprehensive feature set justifies premium pricing, positioning it among the most capable console emulations available.
