Product Overview
Blackboard EQ reframes the equalizer interface around visual feedback and immediate tactile control. Rather than wrestling with traditional parameter displays, you draw curves directly onto the screen, making gain adjustments, frequency placement, and Q width genuinely intuitive. The plugin supports up to 24 bands with independent frequency, gain, Q, and filter type control, offering eight filter options from surgical notches to broad shelves. Slope selection ranges from 12 to 96 dB/oct, with Brickwall filtering available in Linear Phase mode.
What distinguishes Blackboard EQ is its integration of dynamic processing per band. Enabling Dyn converts any band into a full dynamic EQ with threshold, range, attack, and release, allowing surgical taming of problematic frequencies only when they exceed your threshold. The saturation section adds harmonic character to specific frequency ranges via Drive and Character controls, expanding the tool beyond static correction into tonal shaping.
The plugin excels in mixed stereo, left/right, mid/side, and isolated processing modes. Alt-drag isolation auditions individual bands without context, streamlining the frequency-finding process. Text annotations on EQ nodes document your reasoning, improving workflow consistency across sessions.
Blackboard EQ switches between Zero Latency and Linear Phase modes, with 2x and 4x oversampling options for precision critical work. Both pre and post-processing analysers provide visual confirmation of your adjustments. The interface preserves all annotations when switching presets or using A/B comparison, maintaining your mix notes throughout the session.
This tool suits mixing and mastering engineers who value visual workflow efficiency and surgical, context-dependent processing over conventional EQ paradigms.
