About this plugin
The F6 represents a genuine convergence of two previously separate mixing domains: parametric EQ and multiband dynamics. Rather than treating these as discrete processes, Waves has created a tool where dynamic threshold control integrates directly into six independently floating parametric bands, each capable of peak, shelf, or filter response shapes.
The core utility lies in its ability to apply gain reduction or expansion only when a specific frequency range exceeds your chosen threshold. This proves invaluable for taming vocal harshness that emerges under drive, controlling sibilance that intensifies during peaks, or surgically addressing low-mid muddiness that appears primarily during loud passages. The bands can overlap freely, allowing simultaneous narrow surgical cuts alongside broader tonal shaping within the same frequency space.

Technical flexibility distinguishes the F6 from simpler dynamic EQs. Six to 24 dB per octave high and lowpass filters provide surgical precision, while internal or external sidechain routing enables creative dynamics triggering. Mid-side processing transforms the plugin into a spatial problem-solver, permitting independent correction of center versus stereo information.
The transparent operation, absence of pumping artifacts, and per-band threshold sensitivity make this particularly suitable for mastering work and mix-finishing, though its surgical capabilities equally serve individual track processing. Engineers tackling complex material - classical recordings, live jazz, or densely arranged pop productions - will find the F6's granular control significantly reduces manual automation burdens while maintaining musical transparency.
