About this plugin
SSL Native X-EQ 2 is a mastering-grade parametric EQ that addresses a fundamental challenge in digital audio: preserving transparency across the frequency spectrum. Built on SSL's anti-cramping algorithms, the plugin prevents the phase artifacts and tonal coloration that typically emerge when multiple bands interact at high frequencies, a critical concern when stacking multiple EQ instances or making surgical adjustments across a mix.
The 24-band architecture with 17 selectable EQ types and filter shapes offers genuine flexibility. Each band switches between bell, shelf, and high-pass or low-pass configurations, with both fixed and customizable curve options. This isn't excessive - the ability to choose appropriate filter slopes for different problems eliminates compromise and makes the plugin genuinely useful across mastering, mixing, and corrective tasks.

The spatial processing capabilities are particularly relevant for stereo work. Mid-side processing and independent left-right control address real-world scenarios where frequency imbalances exist between channels, common in vocals, stereo sources, or problematic mixes. Band soloing with real-time visual analysis supports methodical troubleshooting rather than guesswork.
The parallel processing mode, referencing SSL's classic hardware circuits, adds character when needed without forcing it. CPU efficiency means the plugin remains practical for inserting across multiple tracks.
X-EQ 2 occupies a genuine niche between transparent surgical tools and character EQs. It's essential for mastering engineers, mix engineers working in genre-agnostic contexts, and anyone serious about accurate frequency correction. While premium-priced, the sonic integrity and practical design justify its position among the most capable digital EQs available.
