About this plugin
The Pulsar 8200 is a component-accurate emulation of George Massenburg's legendary GML 8200, the parametric EQ that fundamentally shaped modern mixing practice. This plugin faithfully models the original's all-discrete, Class-A analog signal path, reproducing the tight low-end punch and crystalline high-frequency presence that made the hardware a studio standard since the 1980s.
What distinguishes the 8200 from conventional parametric designs is its parallel topology and distinctive filter shapes. Rather than applying boosts and cuts in series, the parallel architecture allows overlapping frequency bands to interact in ways that produce notably smoother, more natural tonal adjustments than traditional digital EQs. This approach proves particularly valuable when making aggressive moves across the spectrum, where other units often introduce audible artifacts.

Pulsar has thoughtfully bridged the gap between vintage hardware workflow and modern production needs. The plugin includes a real-time curve editor with integrated spectrum analyzer, allowing precise visual feedback without sacrificing the intuitive hands-on character of the original unit. The added de-esser provides practical vocal processing capability, while expanded features like high/low-cut filters, a Tilt control, and dedicated Air and Sub bands extend the original's functional range.
The Pulsar 8200 serves mixing engineers and mastering specialists seeking transparent, musical EQ correction. Its sonic signature - neither brutally surgical nor overly characterful - makes it equally suitable for surgical problem-solving and creative tonal shaping. Among parametric EQ plugins, it remains a genuinely competitive choice, particularly for those who value analog-derived processing behavior.
