About this plugin
Flanger 117 models the classic MXR M117, a defining instrument in the flanger pedal canon. Released during the golden era of analog effects, the M117 established sonic parameters that remain relevant today: a sweeping, sculptural modulation with enough depth to reshape sources without obliterating them. Audiority's emulation captures this character through BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) simulation, delivering the characteristic warmth and slight harmonic distortion inherent to the original circuit.
The plugin's architecture mirrors the hardware unit's straightforward control set - Manual, Width, Speed, and Regen parameters - while extending functionality in practical ways. Tempo Sync anchors the effect to your session, essential for modern production workflows. Through-Zero Flanging expands the sonic palette beyond the original's capabilities, creating notch filters that traverse through zero frequency for more dramatic sweeps. Negative Feedback mode inverts the regeneration circuit, producing distinctly different character from standard flanging.

The inclusion of dynamic flanging via envelope follower opens possibilities for responsive, performance-sensitive modulation. Stereo Spread widens the effect across the stereo field, while the Drive and Mix controls provide additional shaping options absent from the original hardware.
This tool suits engineers seeking authentic flanger character across diverse sources - guitars and synths benefit from its classic warmth, but the plugin performs equally well on vocals, bass, and drums where subtler applications prove effective. Compared to purely algorithmic flangers, Flanger 117's analog modeling approach delivers a cohesiveness that more closely approximates hardware. It occupies practical middle ground: authoritative in its sonics yet straightforward in operation.
