About this plugin
Audiority's Electric Matter delivers a meticulously modeled recreation of the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, the iconic late-70s BBD flanger that defined the sound of progressive rock and new wave production. Built around the Reticon SAD1024 BBD architecture, the plugin captures both the characteristic sonic warmth and the notorious weaknesses of hardware flanging from that era.
The core appeal lies in Electric Matter's dual operational modes. The traditional flanger circuit produces the sweeping, jet-engine modulation that made the original indispensable for crafting ethereal lead textures and mimicking Leslie rotator effects. The filter matrix mode adds harmonic complexity through sweepable resonant filtering, expanding creative possibilities beyond standard flange treatments. The expanded LFO and VCO circuits found in Deluxe models grant wider modulation ranges than earlier iterations, allowing subtler automation or more extreme spectral movement depending on your intention.

What distinguishes Electric Matter from mere emulation is its correction of inherent hardware limitations. The original unit suffered from notable tone loss and volume attenuation - artifacts many producers worked around rather than embraced. Here, Audiority has eliminated these constraints while preserving the tonal character, offering independent pre and post-effect gain staging plus transparent mix control.
The plugin appeals primarily to engineers working within vintage aesthetic frameworks - those seeking authentic 70s coloration without the compromises. Its tempo sync capability makes it equally viable for modern production contexts. Among competing BBD flanger emulations, Electric Matter balances historical accuracy with practical usability, making it a legitimate first choice for producers valuing sonic authenticity.
