About this plugin
Other Desert Cities stands as Audio Damage's most ambitious delay processor, delivering six distinct algorithms that extend well beyond conventional delay duties. The plugin distinguishes itself through genuinely novel approaches to time-based processing, particularly in the Mirage multi-head algorithm, which emulates a rotating tape head mechanism to produce characterful modulation and pitch variations. The Sky Valley granular engine pushes further into experimental territory, offering granular pitch-shifting with adjustable grain size and scatter parameters - a feature set rarely encountered in delay plugins.
The core architecture emphasizes deep modulation integration rather than effects stacking. Two tempo-synced LFOs with variable waveshapes and an envelope follower can target virtually any parameter, enabling ducking, panning, and dynamic timbral shifts that justify the "infinitely powerful" descriptor without hyperbole. This modulation depth transforms even the straightforward Desert Shores stereo delay into a capable sound design tool.

What separates Other Desert Cities from competitors is granular control over the entire signal chain's gain structure. The included diffusor adds spatial complexity to feedback paths, while individual algorithms feature character-appropriate controls: Cactus offers speed and pitch quantizing for tape-like behavior, Thermal provides multi-tap flexibility with crossfeed options, and Reverse Delay simply inverts playback for experimental rhythmic possibilities.
The plugin serves producers and sound designers more than those seeking surgical, transparent delay. Its strength lies in atmospheric enhancement, rhythmic disruption, and timbral transformation rather than traditional slapback or slap echo applications. Among premium delay processors, Other Desert Cities occupies a distinctive position between conventional utility and full experimental platform.
