About this plugin
Lounge Lizard EP-5 represents a significant refinement of Applied Acoustics Systems' flagship electric piano emulation, now built on a completely redesigned physical modeling engine that substantially improves upon EP-4's already capable foundation. The upgrade introduces dual synthesis pathways optimized separately for tine-based and reed-based instruments, allowing users to model everything from Fender Rhodes to Hohner Clavinet with greater sonic fidelity and tonal separation than the previous generation.
The technical improvements are tangible. The redesigned modeling core captures hammer mechanics, tine resonance, and pickup characteristics with noticeably enhanced realism, particularly in how the instruments respond to velocity and sustain pedal manipulation. For users working with EP-4, the sonic character feels more dimensional - there's greater clarity in the high-end shimmer and more convincing mechanical warmth in the midrange, without sacrificing the approachable interface that made the original successful.

EP-5 adds a new Guitar Amplifier effect to its already comprehensive effects rack, alongside a redesigned preset browser with search functionality and an expanded sound library balancing classic emulations with contemporary variations. The standalone version and full plugin format support remain, with added NKS compatibility for Native Instruments controllers.
For producers and engineers working extensively with vintage electric piano textures in contemporary productions, the upgrade delivers measurable improvements in authenticity and playability. The enhanced physical modeling particularly benefits studio work where nuanced tonal control matters, while the effects rack remains practical for both stage and recording applications. It's a genuine refinement rather than a cosmetic update.
