About this plugin
Antelope Audio's BX3 Compressor represents a thoughtfully engineered approach to multiband dynamic control, particularly valuable during mastering where surgical frequency-specific processing often makes the difference between a good mix and a polished product. The plugin divides the spectrum into three independently adjustable bands - low, mid, and high - each with dedicated threshold, ratio, attack, release, knee, and response parameters alongside separate input and output gain staging.
The architecture prioritizes clarity and precision. Selectable filter slopes provide flexibility in how aggressively frequencies separate between bands, while a frequency response visualization confirms your crossover placement before committing to processing. The dual gain reduction meters track compression activity across all three bands simultaneously, making it straightforward to identify which regions are actually being affected. A 20ms lookahead delay allows the compressor to anticipate transients, crucial for controlling peaks without introducing audible pumping.

Where BX3 distinguishes itself is in its restraint. Rather than pursuing a colored, characterful sound, Antelope Audio prioritizes transparency and organic results - the compressor responds predictably without imparting harmonic distortion or phase anomalies that can cloud masters. The included limiter module functions as an additional safety net for catching unexpected peaks.
This plugin works equally well tightening loose low-end content in bass-heavy productions or controlling sibilance in vocal-forward mixes, though its real strength emerges during mastering where marginal gains in cohesion and control accumulate into perceptibly superior final products. It's a capable, professional-grade tool that rewards careful parameter adjustment without requiring esoteric knowledge to achieve satisfying results.
