About this plugin
Loom II stands as a substantive evolution in modular additive synthesis, addressing genuine limitations of its predecessor while maintaining the original's intuitive design philosophy. The core architecture revolves around combining up to 512 harmonic partials drawn from 34 editable modules, enabling synthesis workflows that range from straightforward harmonic manipulation to complex spectral sculpting.
The most significant technical advancement is the integrated Spectral Noise section, which allows a secondary oscillator to introduce noise-based frequency content alongside or instead of pure harmonic material. This addresses a long-standing gap in additive synthesis, where tonal purity often came at the expense of textural complexity. The expanded voice count to eight and additional subharmonic partials further extend the instrument's capabilities for dense, evolving soundscapes.

The Morph Pad remains the primary performance interface, enabling real-time interpolation between user-defined patch variations. The enhanced implementation now offers deeper morphing options that facilitate the creation of continuously evolving patches without requiring external modulation sources.
Loom II suits both experimental sound designers seeking granular spectral control and producers building complex pad textures and ambient material. The 500 newly designed presets by Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden provide immediate sonic reference, while the re-mastered legacy patches demonstrate how existing sounds integrate with new features.
While additive synthesis remains a specialized domain, Loom II's modular approach and expanded feature set position it as a credible alternative to dedicated spectral tools. The plugin excels for those prioritizing textural sophistication and harmonic precision over conventional subtractive workflows.
