Mission 6

The Mission 6 plugin is UVI's software emulation of the ASICs synthesizer, the polarizing 16-voice polysynth that arrived in 2000 and immediately challenged conventional thinking about analog architecture. Rather than chase the warm, predictable character of classic Moog or ARP designs, the hardware voiced its dual oscillators and parallel SEM/Ladder filter pairs with a distinctly modern, slightly abrasive quality that made it equally at home in experimental sound design and straightforward synthesis work.

UVI's implementation captures this sonic duality well. The plugin retains the original's tonal flexibility - capable of producing serviceable vintage pad tones, but more naturally inclined toward gritty, complex textures and FM-style distortions. Cross-modulation and ring mod options add harmonic density, while the mod matrix and multiple LFOs provide serious modulation depth for those willing to invest the time. The built-in effects processing is competent rather than exceptional, functioning primarily as practical workflow tools rather than destination features.

The preset library demonstrates solid design work across 400+ sounds, organized logically and usable both as-is and as departure points. For sound designers and electronic producers working in IDM, experimental hip-hop, or contemporary scoring, Mission 6 occupies a useful niche - it's neither the go-to for smooth polysynth work nor the most CPU-efficient option, but it excels at generating the kind of unstable, characterful tones that benefit from technical precision and hands-on control.
