About this plugin
PEEL STEMS is a real-time stem separation plugin that operates directly within your DAW, built on zplane's STEMS EFFICIENT technology. Unlike offline separation tools, it processes audio on the fly with minimal latency, which the host DAW typically compensates automatically. This means you can mute or solo vocal, drum, bass, and instrumental elements while monitoring playback without interruption.
The plugin's technical foundation relies on neural network models trained for instrumental separation, achieving reliable source isolation across mixed material. The Soundfield Display provides visual feedback on each stem's frequency content and stereo characteristics in real time, offering genuine mixing insight rather than abstract meters. The integrated PEEL Focus EQ allows you to isolate or remove specific frequency ranges by dragging across the display, with an invert function for surgical targeting.

PEEL STEMS serves multiple workflows. Producers can extract drum loops or vocal hooks from finished tracks for remixing. Mix engineers can rebalance problematic elements in client masters without requesting stems. DJs can mute vocals for acapella performance or create dynamic drops during live playback. For sample-based music, it eliminates the need for extensive searching or offline processing.
Performance depends on source material quality and complexity. Heavily compressed or heavily layered productions separate less distinctly than well - separated sources. The CPU footprint remains reasonable for real - time operation, though read - ahead buffering does introduce modest latency.
Among stem separation tools, PEEL STEMS distinguishes itself through DAW integration and real - time capability rather than separation quality alone. It's most valuable when workflow speed and creative immediacy outweigh perfect fidelity.
