About this plugin
XLN Audio's Vintage Dry expansion captures the drum aesthetics that defined 1970s rock, funk, and disco production with genuine sonic authority. Rather than relying on sample manipulation or digital emulation, the developers sourced a 1968 Ludwig Silver Sparkle kit from Studio INGRID and applied period-accurate dampening techniques - pillow and felt stuffing in the kick, newspaper on snare heads, felt pinning on toms - before recording through vintage microphones (Coles, Neumann, Sennheiser, Bang & Olufsen) and an API console from the same era. This methodological commitment yields drums with the characteristic dry attack and controlled resonance that defined the decade.
The expansion includes dual kick options, two snares, multiple tom configurations, and a curated cymbal selection anchored by Zildjian K and Sabian hardware. The 30 mix-ready presets span from softer early 70s textures to punchy late 70s disco configurations, all tweakable through Addictive Drums 2's engine for customization without sacrificing the core sonic signature.

Vintage Dry suits producers pursuing authentic 70s aesthetics or those seeking naturally constrained drum sounds that sit well in dense mixes without requiring heavy processing. The kit occupies distinct sonic territory - fatter than modern studio standards but less heavily processed than 80s-influenced alternatives. It represents a pragmatic choice for engineers wanting that era's rhythmic foundation without resorting to sample layering or extensive EQ work. For users already invested in the Addictive Drums ecosystem, this expansion offers immediately usable, sonically coherent alternatives to stock kits.
