About this plugin
PX WaveFrame is UVI's software emulation of the AudioFrame, a 24-bit digital sampler that emerged from Boulder in the late 1980s as a serious alternative to the Synclavier and Fairlight. The plugin captures the distinctive sonic character of that hardware through meticulously sampled original sounds and newly designed presets tailored for contemporary production.
The emulation preserves the AudioFrame's core strengths: phase-coherent polyphony, non-aliased transposition, and the particular digital warmth that distinguished it from competing samplers of that era. UVI recorded both clean versions of each sound and separately processed FX variants, giving users two interpretive approaches to the source material. This dual-layer approach reflects the original hardware's capabilities while expanding creative flexibility.

The preset library of 350 patches demonstrates thoughtful curation across traditional categories - Keys, Guitars, Bass, Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, Synths, and Drums - alongside dedicated Effects presets. Rather than retrofitting vintage sounds into modern contexts, UVI has designed patches that acknowledge the AudioFrame's sonic DNA while serving contemporary mixing and arrangement needs.
PX WaveFrame suits producers seeking distinctive character without the workflow constraints of hardware. It's particularly valuable for those working with analog-era references or needing textural depth beyond sample libraries. The plugin occupies a specific niche between sample playback and sound design, offering enough customization to justify deep exploration while maintaining the sonic imprint that drew artists like Peter Gabriel and Stevie Wonder to the original.
