About this plugin
X-Eight 2 is a comprehensive 808 synthesis and sample playback plugin from Thenatan Audio designed to streamline low-end production across hip-hop, trap, and future bass contexts. The plugin combines an extensive sample library of over 1,342 pre-recorded 808 and kick sources with robust real-time sound design capabilities, allowing producers to either select from existing tones or heavily manipulate them into original sounds.
The core architecture centers on three primary modulation systems: a filter envelope for shaping the attack and sustain characteristics, a pitch LFO for creating melodic movement and sub-bass wobble, and a dedicated filter LFO for dynamic tonal variation. This modular approach to animation distinguishes X-Eight 2 from simple sample playback tools, offering genuine synthesis-grade control rather than basic pitch and volume adjustment. The randomize function provides a streamlined entry point for sound discovery without requiring exhaustive manual tweaking.

The effects section addresses practical mixing scenarios with tools specifically calibrated for sub-bass clarity and impact. Rather than generic processors, the included effects target the specific demands of 808 processing - punch enhancement, frequency-specific saturation, and spatial characteristics that translate across consumer speakers and professional monitoring.
X-Eight 2 appeals to producers seeking faster workflow in sample selection and modification without sacrificing sonic depth. While dedicated 808 synthesizers like Serum or Massive X offer greater architectural flexibility, X-Eight 2's combination of curated sampling and focused modulation makes it pragmatic for beatmakers prioritizing efficiency and immediately usable results. The plugin occupies a middle ground between off-the-shelf samples and custom synthesis.
