About this plugin
Addictive Drums 2: Jazz Collection represents XLN Audio's focused approach to delivering authentic jazz drumming within their modular plugin ecosystem. The package centers on two professionally recorded acoustic drum kits captured with both traditional sticks and brushes, performed by accomplished jazz drummers in controlled studio environments. This dual-kit approach addresses a fundamental challenge in jazz production: the distinct tonal and textural requirements between stick and brush techniques.
The sonic character emphasizes naturalism and responsiveness. Rather than attempt synthesis, XLN captured the instruments with meticulous mic placement and minimal processing, preserving the nuanced dynamics that distinguish live jazz drumming from electronic alternatives. The inclusion of RealSweep technology - their proprietary algorithm for generating authentic brush sweeps - suggests technical sophistication beyond standard sample playback, allowing producers to generate natural-sounding brush articulations without relying solely on pre-recorded loops.

Addictive Drums 2's architecture provides serious control through its built-in mixing console, compression, EQ, and distortion tools. This proves valuable for jazz contexts where kit character often requires subtle sculpting rather than radical transformation. The complementary MIDIpaks ship with genre-appropriate grooves spanning swing standards to bebop signatures, offering both reference material and creative starting points.
This collection works best for producers and composers engaged in jazz-adjacent music who require authentic drum textures without committing to full sample libraries or virtual instrument suites. Among comparable tools, AD2 occupies middle ground between sample-based convenience and the deep editing capabilities of comprehensive DAW percussion instruments, making it a pragmatic choice for working musicians prioritizing workflow efficiency alongside sonic legitimacy.
