About this plugin
Wavesfactory's Mercury Lite represents a pragmatic approach to sampling one of the finest concert grands available. Built from recordings of a Fazioli F228 captured at Metropolis Studios by engineer Paul B. Norris, this Kontakt instrument consolidates five discrete microphone positions into a single merged audio file, reducing the library's footprint by 80 percent while maintaining the tonal character of the source material.
The consolidation strategy proves particularly useful for CPU-constrained sessions. Rather than managing five simultaneous mic layers, producers work with a unified signal that combines all positions at unity gain - sonically equivalent to enabling every microphone at 0dB in the full Mercury Pro version. The Fazioli's distinctive characteristics remain intact: delicate upper harmonics paired with substantial low-end body and resonance that responds convincingly across velocity ranges from intimate to aggressive.

Recorded with two round-robin repetitions and the same effects processing as the professional edition (including Metropolis Plates convolution), Mercury Lite delivers genuine sampling depth without demanding professional-tier system resources. Individual microphone selections consume roughly 300MB of RAM, making this viable for laptop-based work.
The plugin suits composers scoring intimate scenes, producers building hybrid arrangements, and engineers auditioning Fazioli character before committing to the full library. Wavesfactory bundles a coupon code offsetting the Lite version's cost against Mercury Pro, functioning effectively as a cost-neutral trial. For those prioritizing convenience and computational efficiency over microphone manipulation, Mercury Lite provides authentic Fazioli sound without unnecessary technical overhead.
