About this plugin
Voltage Amps is Waves' take on amp modeling for modern production workflows. The plugin leverages convolution-based cabinet modeling paired with traditional amp circuit emulation to deliver a straightforward alternative to more comprehensive amp suites. Its core strength lies in immediate usability: five guitar and three bass amp models cover genuine stylistic ground, from Fender-style cleans through British crunch to high-gain territory, all without requiring deep parameter diving.
The technical foundation rests on impulse response cabinets and a Focus control that adjusts the amp's frequency response to compensate for different guitar and pickup characteristics. This approach is practical rather than revolutionary, addressing a real problem in virtual amp design where one amp rarely satisfies multiple instruments equally. The stereo room simulation adds dimensional space without overwhelming the mix.

The 400+ preset library, sourced from accomplished producers and musicians including Butch Vig and Taylor Swift's production team, provides legitimate creative starting points rather than marketing flourish. Settings persist across amp switching, which streamlines A/B comparisons and workflow efficiency.
Voltage occupies the middle ground between lightweight amp plugins and deep-feature systems like Helix Native or Archetype. It's best suited for producers prioritizing speed and coherence over endless sonic exploration, or engineers who need solid amp tones without context switching between multiple tools. The cab bypass option and IR integration provide necessary flexibility for hybrid setups.
While not groundbreaking technologically, Voltage executes its intended purpose competently: delivering usable guitar and bass tones quickly, backed by a solid preset foundation.
