About this plugin
The V-EQ4 represents a deliberate bridge between the tonal philosophy of vintage analog EQs and the surgical precision demanded by modern mixing. Based on the Neve 1081 - a circuit revered for its musical character rather than its clinical accuracy - Waves has created a tool that doesn't force you to choose between warmth and control.
The architecture supports dual 10-position midrange bands with switchable Q values and high-pass/low-pass filters flanking variable shelf controls on both ends of the spectrum. This configuration allows for both dramatic tonal shaping and subtle problem-solving. The Hi-Q buttons enable narrower, more targeted corrections when needed, while standard Q settings favor the broader, more musical approach that made vintage designs appealing to generations of engineers.

Transformer modeling is central to the V-EQ4's character - that upfront, slightly compressed quality that makes sources sit prominently without obvious equalization. The Class AB emulation adds harmonic density, particularly in the high frequencies, giving the plugin an inherent sparkle that compensates for what can sometimes feel clinical in digital processing.
The plugin excels across multiple sources. Drums benefit from the frequency range and Q flexibility, guitars and keyboards respond well to the tonal coloration, and vocals gain presence and definition. Whether you're reaching for broadbrush tone shaping or surgical frequency work, the V-EQ4 delivers without forcing compromise between character and precision. It's a genuinely capable workhorse that doesn't sound like a workhorse.
