About this plugin
Waves' OneKnob Pressure distills compression into its essential function: dynamic control without the cognitive load of traditional compressor interfaces. Rather than juggling attack, release, ratio, and threshold parameters, the plugin presents ten discrete compression profiles arranged along a single continuous knob, progressing from transparent parallel compression through increasingly aggressive settings to heavy-handed squashing.
The architecture reflects thoughtful preset design. Each position optimizes the underlying compressor parameters for specific source material and mixing scenarios. Light settings employ slower attacks and longer releases suitable for bus processing and stereo sources, where transparency matters. Mid-range positions tighten vocal dynamics while maintaining natural articulation. Aggressive settings compress with minimal lookahead, producing the saturated, pumping character useful for drums and bass.

The input level control - offering pad, unity, and boost positions - addresses a practical mixing concern: compensating for gain staging as you move through compression intensities. This prevents the common workflow interruption of A/B comparisons requiring constant level matching.
OneKnob Pressure occupies a specific niche within compression tools. It sacrifices fine-grained control for immediate results, making it valuable during tracking when creative momentum matters more than precision, or during mixing sessions when rapid A/B testing streamlines decision-making. Experienced engineers appreciate it not as a replacement for full-featured compressors but as a efficient alternative for common tasks where preset parameters suffice.
The plugin's real strength lies in reducing friction between intention and execution, allowing engineers to prioritize sonic results over parameter management.
