About this plugin
Waves Clavinet recreates the Hohner D6 clavinet through comprehensive multi-sampling, capturing the instrument's mechanical character across velocity ranges, articulations, and both muted and unmuted modes. The sampling methodology preserves the inherent tonal qualities - the bright, percussive attack and natural decay that made the original essential to funk, soul, and rock production.
The plugin's velocity response directly influences tone color and dynamics, a critical aspect of clavinet authenticity that separates convincing emulations from generic digital approximations. The envelope-follower autowah adds movement tied to playing intensity, essential for the characteristic sweeping tonal variations heard in classic recordings. The included amp simulator with microphone selection options addresses the reality that clavinet character depends heavily on amplification and mic placement choices made during tracking sessions.

Supporting effects - phase, chorus, and reverb - reflect the processing chains commonly employed with original hardware. The integrated EQ, compression, and limiting allow mix preparation without external processing, though experienced engineers may prefer external tools for more granular control.
Clavinet occupies a specific niche among keyboard emulations. Unlike general MIDI keyboard controllers, it delivers authentic clavinet timbre through meticulous sampling rather than synthesis or modeling. For producers working within vintage soul, funk, and classic rock frameworks, or seeking authentic period-appropriate textures, it provides reliable results. For engineers seeking subtle keyboard textures or modern interpretations, the sonic character may prove limiting. Its effectiveness depends entirely on musical context and production intent.
