About this plugin
Waldorf's Streichfett plugin resurrects the string machine archetype that defined orchestral synth textures in 70s and 80s pop and rock production. Rather than emulating a specific hardware unit, it distills the essential sonic DNA of that era's string synthesizers into a streamlined, modern plugin format available across VST3, VST2, AU, and AAX.
The engine splits into two complementary sections: a fully polyphonic string synthesizer and an eight-voice solo section. This dual architecture proves essential for authentic period recreation, allowing lush pad textures alongside lead voices without voice-stealing conflicts. The string section benefits from an integrated ensemble effect that adds the characteristic modulation and spatial depth that made hardware string machines sound so immediate and present, even when played through modest mixing consoles.

Signal processing remains straightforward but effective. A phaser and reverb complete the effects chain, both variable enough to shape character from subtle thickening to more pronounced atmospheric coloration. The interface scales intelligently across display sizes without compromising usability, a practical consideration often overlooked in plugin design.
Sonically, Streichfett delivers the dense, floating timbral character that made string machines indispensable before polyphonic synthesis eliminated the need for dedicated orchestral layers. The sound carries genuine weight - not thin or plasticky - making it immediately serviceable in contemporary arrangements. Producers and composers seeking convincing period-appropriate textures or those simply preferring direct workflow over deep parameter editing will find it efficient. At its price point, the plugin represents genuine value for anyone pursuing vintage string synthesizer tones without hardware acquisition costs or maintenance demands.
