About this plugin
Vintage VI is Big Fish Audio's meticulously sampled collection of classic rock, soul, funk, and jazz instruments spanning the 1960s and 70s. Rather than pursuing sonic purity, the developers prioritized character and authenticity, selecting instruments based on their sonic personality rather than rarity or price tag. This philosophy yields a cohesive library that captures the lived-in warmth absent from contemporary pristine sample libraries.
The drum collection anchors the instrument set. A 1958 Rogers Mardi Gras Holiday kit in rare finish delivers the open, untamed crack and ring that defined funk and soul recording, its snares and toms uncompressed and unpolished. A complementary 1960s Gretsch 3-ply jazz kit provides lighter articulation suited to bebop and modal contexts, sampled alongside period-appropriate rim shots that reflect traditional jazz playing technique. These aren't cosmetically restored vintage drums; they're captured with all the character that made them studio staples.

The keyboard selection ranges from classically recorded Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer patches to deliberately "filthy" amp-driven variations that border on psychedelic. Bass and guitar instruments span multiple genres and setups, while the inclusion of a late-60s electric sitar acknowledges the era's experimental impulses.
Vintage VI succeeds as both a period-accurate toolkit and a character library for contemporary production. It serves producers seeking authentic 70s soul and funk textures as readily as those mining vintage sounds for modern contextual contrast. The sonic philosophy throughout remains consistent: capture real instruments with real character, preserving the imperfections that make classic recordings resonate across decades.
