About this plugin
EastWest Sounds' Voices of Soul represents a focused approach to vocal sampling, centered on the performances of vocalist C.C. White. Developed by Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix, the instrument delivers over 600 expressive phrases across all keys, built from multi-sampled vocal recordings captured at various emotional intensities and performance styles.
The core technical strength lies in its true legato transition system, which addresses one of the persistent challenges in sampled vocal instruments - achieving seamless pitch transitions that avoid the robotic quality typical of crossfading or interpolation methods. The library includes granular syllable samples that producers can manipulate in real time, offering flexibility beyond pre-recorded phrases alone.

The sonic character skews toward contemporary R&B and soul music, with White's alto range and phrasing optimized for gospel-influenced ornamentation and sustained expressiveness. This positions Voices of Soul distinctly from classical vocal libraries, making it less universally applicable but highly effective within its intended genre context.
Practical applications span from layering over string arrangements to standalone lead vocal processing. The included reverb and chorus effects enable spatial depth and vocal thickening without external processing, though integration with a mixing chain remains essential for professional results.
Compared to competitors like Syntaur's offerings or Native Instruments' Choir engines, Voices of Soul trades breadth for specificity. It excels when producers seek a particular vocal character and emotional quality, rather than maximum stylistic versatility. The preset-based combo instruments streamline workflow, though experienced producers will likely customize articulation switching and effects parameters extensively. Best suited for soul, R&B, gospel, and contemporary pop productions where authentic vocal inflection matters.
