About this plugin
Vintage Horns 2 is a sample-based brass and woodwind library that prioritizes sonic authenticity over technical polish. Rather than pursuing the clinical precision common in modern horn libraries, Big Fish Audio deliberately preserved the tonal characteristics that defined classic soul, jazz, and funk recordings. This includes loose tuning, breath artifacts, and the occasional cracked or warbled note - the very imperfections that gave session players like Maceo Parker and Miles Davis their distinctive voices.
The library draws directly from the playing techniques of 1960s and 70s horn sections, incorporating genre-specific articulations such as growling, flutter-tongue, and slurred transitions. These aren't merely novelty effects but rather fundamental performance gestures that shaped entire musical movements. The sample selection reflects careful attention to vibrato character, attack behavior, and the tonal shifts that occur across each instrument's range.

Vintage Horns 2 functions as a complementary collection to its predecessor rather than a direct replacement, expanding the available voicings and stylistic options. The plugin integrates with Native Instruments' Komplete Kontrol and Maschine ecosystems, enabling hardware-based performance and parameter manipulation.
This library serves producers and engineers working within retro-informed aesthetics or seeking horn textures rooted in historical authenticity. It's particularly valuable for soul, funk, and jazz projects where the intentional imperfection and character of vintage brass sections become compositional assets rather than technical liabilities. For those accustomed to sanitized virtual instruments, Vintage Horns 2 represents a fundamentally different approach to brass synthesis and sampling.
