About this plugin
Vintage Big Band is a comprehensive sampled instrument library that recreates the instrumental palette of jazz and big band music from the 1930s through 1970s. Rather than applying effects processing to generic samples, the library achieves its sonic character through meticulous performance sampling of period-appropriate playing techniques and articulations drawn from the styles of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and other era-defining ensembles.
The collection spans 75+ instruments across brass, woodwinds, keyboards, rhythm section, and percussion, organized with sufficient granularity to support both quick arrangement sketching and detailed orchestration work. The 33 brass and woodwind instruments form the core, capturing the articulate, punchy aesthetic of vintage jazz sections rather than the lush, modern symphonic approach. Rhythm section instruments - bass, guitar, drums, and keyboards - provide period-appropriate voicings and tonal qualities that anchor arrangements authentically. The arranger tools and multi-patches accelerate workflow for composers working within big band idioms.

The interface prioritizes accessibility without sacrificing depth, making it equally useful for educators introducing students to jazz orchestration and for professional arrangers scoring for television or film. Komplete Kontrol and Maschine integration adds tactile control for those working within Native Instruments' ecosystem, though the library functions independently as a standard Kontakt instrument.
At 17.8GB uncompressed, Vintage Big Band represents a significant investment in sample-based authenticity. It occupies a distinct position among jazz libraries by emphasizing historical accuracy over modern production sensibilities, making it particularly valuable for projects requiring genuine period voice rather than contemporary reinterpretations of jazz idioms.
