About this plugin
DeeQ is a single-band dynamic EQ plugin that continuously modulates filter parameters in response to audio dynamics, either from its input signal or an external sidechain source. This approach solves a recurring mixing challenge: rather than applying static EQ cuts or boosts, DeeQ responds to transient activity, allowing frequency adjustments to duck or swell in real time based on incoming envelope data.
The plugin's architecture centers on three dynamically controllable parameters - frequency, gain, and Q width - all governed by envelope follower logic. A pre-filter EQ applied to the sidechain detector adds sophistication by letting users isolate specific frequency ranges that trigger processing, ensuring the plugin responds only to relevant spectral content. This prevents unnecessary gain fluctuations triggered by unrelated audio material.

Mid/side processing capability extends the tool's utility beyond standard mono operations. Engineers can compress midrange frequencies while leaving sides untouched, or conversely widen high frequencies while collapsing bass into mono - particularly useful when coordinating bass and kick relationships in contemporary music production.
DeeQ occupies practical territory between surgical mixing and creative sound design. Subtle applications include automating tonal balance when competing instruments overlap, while more extreme settings yield wah-like filter sweeps useful in electronic and experimental contexts. The sidechain capability makes it particularly valuable for coordinating multiple tracks without traditional automation, automating clarity decisions that would otherwise require manual gain riding.
The plugin serves engineers seeking dynamic mixing solutions that respond intelligently to source material, distinguishing it from both static EQ tools and conventional multiband dynamics processors.
