About this plugin
UVI Drone is a purpose-built instrument for crafting evolving ambient textures and atmospheric soundscapes. At its core sits a dual-layer sample engine powered by IRCAM's granular synthesis technology, which deconstructs long-format samples into individually manipulable grains. This approach allows producers to transform static recordings into constantly shifting timbral environments without relying on traditional looping or time-stretching artifacts.
The sonic palette is substantial. The included library spans hundreds of long-form samples ranging from subsonic rumbles to crystalline pads, providing immediate starting points for both film scoring and experimental music production. Beyond playback, the granular engine facilitates granule-level parameter control, enabling precise sculpting of texture, density, and spectral content. Built-in effects including Swarm modulation, Feedback Loop processing, and Harmonics generation add harmonic complexity and movement. The customizable XY pad coupled with assignable Chaos and LFO modulators creates hands-on control for real-time performance or automation-driven composition.

Drone distinguishes itself through technical specification rather than sonic character alone. Native MPE support enables expressive polyphonic control from compatible controllers, while surround sound sourcing accommodates immersive mixing workflows. The architecture prioritizes detail and movement - core requirements for high-end film and game audio where static pads prove insufficient.
This tool occupies a specific niche within granular synthesis software. While not a general-purpose synth, it outperforms generic granular plugins for dedicated ambient work, offering deeper control and more refined sample selection than modular alternatives. It appeals primarily to sound designers and composers prioritizing textural depth over harmonic versatility.
