About this plugin
Violence stands as a singular achievement in the prepared instrument category, translating John Cage's deconstructionist philosophy directly into digital form. Rather than modeling a conventional violin, Vir2 sampled a solo instrument played through unconventional means - bowed, scraped, struck, and plucked with mallets, chopsticks, guitar picks, and wet fingers - then subjected the resulting audio to aggressive digital manipulation including re-pitching, layering, and non-linear processing.
The instrument's architecture organizes 82 patches into four functional categories: Drum Kits for percussive material, Melodic instruments for pitched performance, Pads and Sound Effects for textural work, and Tempo-Synced options for rhythmically locked content. Each patch receives custom scripted controls, with parameters like quantization and envelope manipulation appearing contextually depending on the loaded instrument. This design philosophy acknowledges that different sonic territories require different toolsets.

What distinguishes Violence from other effect-based instruments is its commitment to genuinely alien timbres rather than recognizable instrumental emulation. The sound design sits deliberately in the liminal space between acoustic and electronic realms - neither attempting to convince nor pretending to authenticity. This makes it particularly valuable for sound designers, experimental composers, and producers working in electronic, industrial, ambient, and avant-garde contexts where textural originality matters more than familiarity.
Built on Kontakt's proven architecture, Violence integrates smoothly into major DAWs via VST, AU, and RTAS, functioning equally well in plugin chains or standalone operation. For practitioners seeking genuinely novel source material rather than another violin variation, Violence delivers complexity that rewards extensive exploration.
