About this plugin
Universal Audio's Custom 10 Plus represents a significant refinement of their dynamic EQ architecture, delivering surgical precision across the mixing chain. Built on the Neve 1081 console's proven approach to concurrent EQ and compression, this plugin combines ten parametric bands with integrated multiband dynamics, enabling simultaneous tonal shaping and gain reduction within individual frequency zones.
The sonic character remains distinctly analog - the filter responses exhibit gentle slopes and musical saturation that prevents the clinical artifacts common to purely digital implementations. Each band offers both EQ and compression capabilities, allowing engineers to address frequency-specific issues without the phase complications of serial processing. The interface reflects this dual nature clearly, making complex parallel moves intuitive rather than menu-driven.

Custom 10 Plus serves mixing engineers tackling dense, problematic sources - vocal records with inconsistent proximity effects, drums requiring coordinated tonal control, or mastering work demanding transparent yet comprehensive correction. The plugin excels where traditional serial chains prove clumsy, particularly when controlling resonances while simultaneously managing dynamic imbalance within those same frequencies.
Compared to competitors like FabFilter Pro-Q 3, this tool trades surgical visual feedback for genuine analog character and simultaneous dynamic control. Against Waves C6, it offers greater tonal sophistication and higher CPU efficiency on UAD hardware acceleration. For engineers already invested in Universal Audio's ecosystem, Custom 10 Plus justifies its position as a professional workhorse - less flashy than competitors, but sonically credible and practically indispensable for complex mixing scenarios requiring both precision and musicality.
