Universal Audio's Oxide Tape Recorder brings genuine tape emulation to any DAW, addressing a genuine gap in accessible analog tape saturation. Developed by the same engineering team responsible for UA's Ampex and Studer machine emulations, Oxide strips away unnecessary complexity while preserving the sonic fundamentals that make tape desirable: natural compression, harmonic coloration, and circuit nonlinearity.

The plugin operates on proven principles, modeling tape speed behavior at 7.5 and 15 IPS with selectable emphasis curves that shift the character of saturation. Rather than chasing CPU-intensive convolution approaches, Oxide employs circuit emulation to capture the musical compression and harmonic distortion that occurs when audio passes through tape's magnetic medium. Input and output controls let you dial in saturation intensity intuitively - push input for aggression or pull output for subtlety.

Oxide succeeds where many tape plugins falter: it sounds genuinely musical without requiring technical tape knowledge.
