About this plugin
Universal Audio's B-Side Mix Tape Bundle compiles a curated selection of tape machine emulations drawn from the company's extensive analog modeling library. Rather than presenting entirely new algorithms, this collection gathers proven tape saturation tools that address specific mixing scenarios where tape's nonlinear harmonic enhancement becomes indispensable.
The bundle operates on UAD's established approach to tape modeling: mathematical recreations of classic reel-to-reel machines and tape formulations that introduce controlled saturation, subtle compression, and frequency-dependent harmonic distortion. Each included plugin targets particular sonic characteristics - some emphasizing the aggressive coloration of fast tape speed, others the gentler compression of slower machines.

The bundle appeals primarily to mixing engineers seeking comprehensive tape options without purchasing individual plugins separately. It works particularly well for cohesive bus processing, where a single tape machine's character can bind disparate tracks, or for inserting into mix chains where subtle analog warmth prevents digital harshness.
Among tape emulation tools, UAD's implementations maintain strong technical credibility, though engineers should recognize this represents consolidation rather than innovation. Value depends heavily on existing plugin ownership and personal tape aesthetic preferences.
