About this plugin
FireEQ stands as a multifaceted equalization tool that extends beyond conventional tone-shaping. United Plugins has engineered a plugin that combines traditional EQ functionality with dynamic processing and stereo imaging controls, creating a versatile processor suitable for both mixing and mastering applications.
The core architecture integrates eight primary frequency bands with vintage-modeled low and high-shelf filters, delivering the warm, musical character associated with classic analogue designs. The Dark/Bright balance knob provides rapid tonal adjustment across the spectrum, allowing engineers to shift overall mix character without diving into individual frequency controls. More notably, the Magic knob implements multiband dynamic processing that compresses peaks while lifting quiet material, effectively flattening dynamics across the frequency spectrum and creating a more cohesive sound.

FireEQ distinguishes itself through stereo-aware processing. Each frequency band includes independent Mid/Side controls, granting precise manipulation of the stereo image at specific frequencies. The low-cut filter incorporates a side-kill function that isolates low-frequency stereo information, a practical solution for addressing phase issues on larger playback systems without affecting mono compatibility.
The plugin ships with automatic gain compensation, maintaining level consistency across parameter changes. United Plugins' approach to licensing via file-based activation eliminates the friction of dongles or internet connectivity requirements, allowing straightforward usage across multiple workstations.
FireEQ appeals to engineers seeking greater control over mix dimensionality and dynamics within an EQ framework. Its combination of analogue-modeled tone shaping and dynamic processing positions it as a capable utility for both detail-oriented mixing and broader mastering adjustments, though its effectiveness depends on how extensively one engages its advanced features.
