About this plugin
Virtual Pianist GRIT is a performance instrument and rhythm generation plugin built on sampling from a rare, heavily modified 1950s Wurlitzer 120 electric piano. Unlike standard electric piano emulations that prioritize fidelity to the original instrument, GRIT emphasizes the characterful edge and harmonic grit achievable through extreme customization and careful microphone placement during the recording sessions.
The plugin's core strength lies in its Pianist engine, which generates rhythmic accompaniment and chord voicings across 30 distinct styles spanning soul, funk, and rock idioms. The engine responds to input chords and generates accompaniment patterns, effectively functioning as an intelligent rhythm section rather than a static playback tool. Five character presets range from cleaner, more restrained textures to heavily processed, heavily driven variants that lean into the instrument's natural aggression.

The 45 Finisher modes include both sonic processors and mechanical noises, allowing users to layer additional texture and dimension onto performances. A matching set of 45 ambience presets provides spatial context. This modular approach means the raw Wurlitzer sample serves as a foundation for substantially different sonic outcomes depending on processing chain selection.
GRIT is most useful for producers working in soul, R&B, funk, and indie rock contexts where vintage electric piano character carries significant tonal weight. It occupies a specific niche - not a neutral utility, but rather an opinionated instrument with inherent character. The Pianist functionality appeals to composers without piano proficiency, while the Instrument mode accommodates skilled players who want direct control over performances.
