About this plugin
UJAM's Virtual Drummer SOLID 2 represents a pragmatic approach to drum production for producers seeking reliable, sonically cohesive foundation tracks without the overhead of traditional drum sampling or programming. As a crossgrade from any existing paid UJAM product, it offers an accessible entry point into their virtual drummer ecosystem.
The plugin combines five customizable drum kits with algorithmic phrase generation across 30 musical styles. Its core strength lies in intuitive sound manipulation: the Slam control adds punch through compression and saturation, while six character presets morph the tonal palette from vintage warmth to aggressive compression. The new Master Section in version 2 introduces saturation and maximization, providing transparent loudness management without external processing chains.

SOLID 2's workflow improvements justify the upgrade path. Drag and drop phrase integration with DAWs streamlines composition, while multiple audio outputs enable granular mixing control over individual kit components and room mics. The humanize function and timing offset controls address the clinical rigidity common in virtual drummers, though experienced users will recognize these remain algorithmic approximations rather than genuine human variation.
The plugin suits mid-tier producers and home studio operators more than professional engineers with established drum sample libraries. Its accessibility and speed of workflow make it valuable for rapid sketch-to-arrangement development rather than surgical drum sound design. The 150 included presets provide starting points across production contexts, though sonic character remains decidedly digital rather than sonically competitive with high-end sampler collections. For UJAM ecosystem users, the upgrade cost justifies the enhanced mixing capabilities and expanded style library.
