About this plugin
Applied Acoustics Systems' Kicks and Snares Ultra-Analog sound bank leverages the VA-3 virtual analog engine to deliver percussion synthesis with genuine tonal depth. Unlike preset collections that merely repackage existing samples, this bank constructs kicks and snares from modeled analog circuitry and oscillator behaviors, allowing for harmonic complexity and subtle decay characteristics that survive processing without degradation.
The collection spans classic 808-style fundamentals through modern EDM architectures and acoustic drum emulations. What distinguishes this offering is the VA-3's approach to resonance modeling - the snare tones exhibit natural pitch modulation and membrane interaction that feels organic rather than mathematically sterile. Kicks maintain coherent sub-frequency content through multiple synthesis layers, crucial for mix translation across varying playback systems.

This bank suits producers working in electronic music, hip-hop, and experimental genres who demand percussion that integrates seamlessly with heavily processed material. The synthesis-first approach means sounds remain malleable within your DAW, adapting to session requirements without resorting to layering. Engineers preferring deeper sound design control over one-shot convenience will find genuine utility here.
Positioned against sample-based libraries and competing VA engines, the Ultra-Analog collection occupies a middle ground - more flexible than static samples but requiring familiarity with synthesis parameters. For those already comfortable with the VA-3's interface, the bank represents legitimate sonic territory worth exploring rather than marginal variation on established archetypes.
