About this plugin
RICO represents UJAM's specialized approach to Latin percussion and reggaeton production, positioning itself as a rhythm-focused tool rather than a conventional drum machine. This loyalty upgrade delivers 20 distinct rhythmic styles anchored around dembow and dancehall grooves, with 460 patterns distributed across 10 drum kits. The architecture centers on preset-driven workflow, allowing producers to establish foundational grooves quickly without extensive manual programming.
The plugin's sonic character emphasizes weighted low-end foundation paired with crisp, articulate percussion layers. The bundled effects chains - particularly The Grinder for distortion and Good 2 Go for saturation - function as tonal shaping tools rather than surgical processors, designed to inject character into relatively standardized rhythmic templates. This approach prioritizes musicality over clinical precision.

RICO best serves producers working in contemporary pop, hip-hop, and electronic music who need authentic Latin rhythmic elements without deep genre expertise. The drag-and-drop MIDI functionality and resizable interface accommodate both quick prototyping and detailed arrangement work, though the style limitations may constrain users seeking rhythmic flexibility beyond dembow-adjacent grooves.
Among comparable tools, RICO occupies the middle ground between general-purpose drum machines and highly specialized percussion libraries. Its real strength lies in providing cohesive sonic signatures across numerous pattern variations, ensuring consistency across a track's rhythmic foundation. For producers prioritizing rapid workflow and reliable groove generation over granular sound design, the plugin delivers functional utility. Experienced engineers may find its capabilities somewhat constrained, but the quality remains competitive for the category.
