About this plugin
UJAM's RELIC captures a purposefully imperfect upright piano recorded through months of dedicated miking and engineering. The instrument carries authentic character - the slight detuning, mechanical noise, and tonal inconsistencies that define vintage uprights rather than concert grands. This sonic signature makes RELIC particularly effective for contemporary indie, alternative, and lo-fi production where transparent perfection would undermine authenticity.
The plugin operates on two distinct paths. For non-keyboardists, the Pianist engine generates musically coherent performances from single-note input, drawing from hundreds of compositionally strong phrases organized by style and mood. The system responds intuitively to velocity and controller data, producing convincing articulation without the uncanny accompaniment feel that plagues many virtual accompaniment tools. For pianists, direct instrument mode offers hands-on control of the upright with five character variations that subtly reshape tonal color and responsiveness.

Beyond the core sample library, RELIC includes comprehensive signal processing - dedicated finisher and ambience effects that push the piano toward atmospheric soundscaping when needed. The 150 presets provide legitimate starting points rather than cosmetic window dressing.
RELIC occupies a middle ground between sample-based piano libraries and modeling approaches. It prioritizes sonic character and workflow efficiency over technical comprehensiveness. The upright's inherent limitations become strengths in emotional, intimate contexts where the instrument's imperfections communicate authenticity. For producers and composers seeking period-appropriate or deliberately vintage piano textures, RELIC delivers specialized tonal personality that generic piano plugins cannot match.
