About this plugin
Colour Copy is u-he's bucket-brigade delay emulation, a plugin that addresses a fundamental limitation in most digital delay processors: pitch artifacts during time modulation. Rather than resizing the buffer when delay time changes, Colour Copy mirrors authentic BBD hardware by modulating the internal sample rate, yielding smooth pitch sweeps without the digital artifacts that plague traditional implementations. This technical foundation makes it genuinely musical for everything from subtle slapback to extreme modulation effects.
The plugin's core appeal lies in its "Colour" parameter, which morphs across the tonal spectrum of classic bucket-brigade units. This isn't simple EQ adjustment but rather a saturation-based system that captures how different BBD chips responded to signal levels, ranging from warm, diffuse characteristics to pronounced resonance and harmonic distortion. The implementation reflects real circuit behavior rather than approximate emulation, making tonal shifts feel organic rather than algorithmic.

Complementing the delay engine are genuinely useful tools: envelope-follower-based ducking, an LFO that can modulate rate or tap position, MIDI note tracking for tempo-locked delays, and a freeze function for ambient experimentation. Stereo routing is fully flexible, supporting any input and feedback configuration. The 1ms to 1-second time range covers practical territory, with host sync and a 25-400% rate control providing creative latitude.
Colour Copy appeals primarily to sound designers, ambient producers, and engineers seeking authentic analog character without compromise. Among BBD emulations, it stands apart through its smooth modulation behavior and genuinely useful colour morphing rather than aspirational feature lists. For anyone serious about delay textures, it merits audition.
