About this plugin
StaGate is a gate plugin that applies dynamic gating to audio sources with a focus on precision and musicality. The tool addresses a fundamental challenge in modern production: controlling unwanted noise and bleed while maintaining the natural dynamics and character of a performance.
The plugin operates on straightforward principles. A threshold parameter determines at what level the gate opens, while attack and release times control how quickly it responds to transients and decays. What distinguishes StaGate from basic noise gates is its attention to the sonic transition between open and closed states. Rather than abrupt digital switching, the gating action exhibits a smooth character that preserves transient definition while reducing noise floor intrusion.

StaGate suits engineers mixing live recordings, drum tracking with multiple microphones, and vocal sessions where proximity-based noise becomes problematic. It's equally valuable on instrument buses where controlling low-level rumble improves overall clarity without audible gating artifacts. The plugin integrates seamlessly into both tracking workflows and mixing sessions.
Compared to similar tools, StaGate avoids the harshness typical of aggressive gating, making it suitable for sources that demand transparency. It operates with sufficient control range to handle everything from subtle gate duty on a snare track to pronounced noise reduction on guitar amplifier isolation.
The interface balances accessibility with depth, offering essential controls without overwhelming parameter choices. This makes it practical for quick problem-solving while still allowing fine-tuned sculpting when circumstances demand it. StaGate fills a legitimate gap in noise management without introducing character that overshadows the source material.
