About this plugin
Tokyo Dawn Labs' SlickEQ Gentleman's Edition represents a mature refinement of equalizer design, combining surgical precision with intentional harmonic coloration. The plugin's architecture centers on three semi-parametric filter bands, each switchable between two distinct shape behaviors, with five selectable EQ models - American, British, German, Soviet, and Japanese - that fundamentally alter how the equalizer responds to your adjustments. This isn't merely aesthetic naming; each model exhibits different Q characteristics and interaction patterns typical of their respective vintage console lineages.
The most distinctive feature is the parametric tilt filter, a sophisticated tool for tilting the frequency balance without anchoring to a fixed center point. Flanking this are flexible high-pass and low-pass filters with thoughtful options like the low-band's phase-lag mode and the high-pass bump function, tools that prevent typical digital EQ brittleness. The seven output stages - from Linear through Silky, Mellow, Deep, Excited, Toasted, and Funky - inject subtle to substantial saturation characteristics, with the multirate 64-bit internal resampling architecture effectively eliminating aliasing and frequency warping artifacts.

SlickEQ GE suits mixing engineers requiring transparent EQ alongside character options, mastering professionals who need precise control with musical flexibility, and producers seeking console-like tonal shaping without CPU overhead. Its loudness-compensated auto-gain function prevents the typical mix illusion where louder sounds appear "better," while smart EQ actions like reference matching and de-resonation provide intelligent starting points. This is engineering-focused software for discerning ears.
