About this plugin
Three-Body Technology's Modern G-31 addresses a fundamental problem with traditional graphic equalizers: inter-band interaction artifacts that degrade audio fidelity. By employing FIR filtering with minimal or linear-phase processing rather than the IIR architecture common to most graphic EQs, the plugin delivers clean, predictable responses across its 31 bands without the phase distortion or resonant peaks that typically plague stair-stepped adjustments.
The technical execution matters here. Users can toggle between minimal-phase operation (zero latency) and linear-phase mode (2048 samples latency), choosing based on context. The "Curve" parameter adjusts transition slopes between bands, enabling smoother contours when needed rather than forcing the rigid digital shelf responses of competing tools. A parametric bell filter layer adds precision for surgical work, while the included spectrum analyzer provides real-time feedback on your adjustments.

The "Drive" function models vintage console saturation characteristics, injecting harmonic coloration that can warm otherwise clinical digital processing. This proves particularly useful when shaping buses or mastering sources where subtle nonlinearity benefits the overall character.
Modern G-31 suits mastering engineers and mixing professionals who demand surgical control without compromising phase integrity. Mix engineers working in genre-heavy production will appreciate the straightforward interface and rapid recall workflow. The mid/side processing mode expands utility for stereo shaping work.
Among contemporary graphic EQ plugins, Modern G-31 occupies a credible position through its FIR implementation and processing flexibility. It won't replace surgical parametric tools for surgical work, but as a creative shaping and corrective tool that avoids the artifacts endemic to traditional graphic EQs, it represents genuine technical progress in the category.
