About this plugin
Super Chunk is a bass synthesizer plugin that translates the aggressive character of 70s analog synthesizers into a modern, playable instrument. Safari Audio's design philosophy prioritizes immediate sonic gratification over deep parameterization, making it accessible without sacrificing control.
The plugin's three-oscillator architecture divides labor effectively. The Bite oscillator handles upper harmonics and presence, the Sub provides the foundational low-end, and the Chunk oscillator delivers the midrange saturation that gives the synth its distinctive woody character. Octave shifters on each oscillator allow rapid stacking, enabling dense unison textures without menu diving. This straightforward oscillator layout makes Super Chunk ideal for producers who want thick bass quickly rather than endless fine-tuning.

The sonic modification section employs a ladder-style filter with integrated Drive saturation, allowing the filter to transition from smooth to aggressive. A ring modulator provides metallic inharmonic textures for design flexibility beyond traditional bass synthesis. Vibrato, glide, and spring reverb are built-in, eliminating the need for additional plugins for movement and space.
The "Geeky Glasses" modulation system represents the plugin's most innovative feature. Rather than complex CV routing, envelope modulation assigns the ADSR to push parameters toward target values, streamlining modulation setup significantly.
Super Chunk occupies space between straightforward bass plugins and full synthesizer workstations. It suits producers seeking character-driven low-end without excessive complexity, particularly in electronic, hip-hop, and bass-music production. The drive saturation and ring modulation distinguish it from clinical competitors, making it particularly valuable for industrial or experimental applications where sonic attitude matters as much as fundamental frequency control.
