About this plugin
Stereophonic EQP distills the essential character of vintage Pultec equalizers into a plugin workflow that prioritizes musical decision-making over surgical precision. Modeled after the sonic behavior of the EQP-1A and MEQ-5, this three-band midrange design ( low, low-mid, high-mid, high ) incorporates a variable high-pass filter and optional tube saturation to capture the broad, forgiving curves that defined classic analog tone shaping.
The plugin's fundamental strength lies in its wide EQ curves, which encourage gentle enhancement rather than aggressive correction. This approach suits mix engineers seeking to add presence and clarity without the clinical artifacts associated with narrow-Q surgical EQs. The expanded dual midrange bands provide flexibility for modern production while maintaining the smooth, integrated character of the original designs.

Where Stereophonic EQP differentiates itself is through mid-side processing capability. Switching between stereo and M/S modes allows engineers to shape center and side information independently, particularly valuable for bus processing, mastering applications, and stereo-aware mixing decisions where traditional left-right EQ proves limiting. The tube warmth control adds optional saturation, though judiciously implemented to enhance rather than overpower the core EQ character.
The plugin functions across MPC Standalone, MPC Desktop, and standard DAW environments, with 28 factory presets and individual band bypass toggles ensuring quick workflow integration. Experienced engineers familiar with hardware Pultec units will recognize the sonic DNA immediately, while producers new to this design philosophy will find the forgiving character serves well across sources from individual instruments to full mixes.
