About this plugin
Hi Fives is a comprehensive body percussion instrument built from over 9,000 meticulously recorded samples of hand, mouth, and torso articulations. Soundiron founder Mike Peaslee performed the full arsenal of percussive sounds across two microphone positions with up to 16 velocity layers per articulation, capturing everything from basic hand claps and snaps to complex mouth percussion including clicks, pops, swishes, and an entire vocal drum kit. The depth of round-robin variation - up to 12 iterations on certain articulations - ensures genuine tonal variation when layering multiple hits.
The instrument excels at generating realistic, human-scaled body percussion textures that integrate naturally into contemporary production across hip-hop, trap, and alternative rock contexts. The multi-layer Kontakt interface provides intuitive control over velocity dynamics, filter characteristics, and modulation via LFO and arpeggiator, while the included convolution reverb engine offers spatially coherent processing through custom room and chamber impulses. Twenty sound-designed ambient patches derived from the source material extend the sonic palette beyond straightforward percussion, useful for textural padding or transitional elements.

The primary limitation centers on sonic scope: this remains fundamentally a specialized percussion tool rather than a general-purpose drum library. Its value depends on your production context and whether authentic human body percussion resonates with your aesthetic. For producers seeking organic percussive layers that read as genuinely performed rather than synthesized, Hi Fives delivers convincing articulation across an unusually comprehensive range of human vocal and physical sounds. The technical execution - sample quality, velocity response, and customization depth - positions it among the more thorough entries in this niche category.
