About this plugin
The Oxford EQ stands as a distinctly purposeful tool in a crowded plugin landscape, drawing its lineage from the Sony OXF-R3 console's respected EQ section. Rather than chasing novelty, Sonnox has built a five-band parametric equalizer that prioritizes sonic versatility through four fundamentally different EQ topologies, each with a specific mixing application in mind.
The Clinical mode delivers surgical precision comparable to the SSL 4000 E, ideal for targeted problem-frequency removal in dense mixes. The Classic topology mirrors the gentler curves associated with Neve and SSL G series designs, offering musical presence boosts without harshness. A dedicated mastering-focused mode provides wide, transparent curves suited to subtle tonal shaping across full mixes. Variable-slope high-pass and low-pass filters add flexibility for source-specific tailoring.

What distinguishes Oxford EQ most significantly is its sonic restraint. Ultra-low noise and distortion figures ensure transparent operation across extensive automation moves or aggressive gain changes, critical for both surgical correction and broad tonal rebalancing.
The HDX version's standout advantage is the optional GML-8200 emulation, available exclusively to Pro Tools HD/HDX users. This fifth mode faithfully reproduces George Massenburg's hardware design, extending center frequencies to 26kHz for articulate high-frequency control. The combination of authentic recall, unlimited instantiation, and full automation makes this particularly valuable for mixing engineers working across multiple sessions.
Oxford EQ suits professionals requiring reliable, transparent EQ across varied mixing contexts - from tracking room work through final mastering preparation. Its modular topological approach and exceptional audio quality have earned consistent adoption across commercial facilities and independent studios alike.
