About this plugin
The SSL Native Essentials Bundle delivers the core toolkit that shaped modern mixing across four decades of hit records. Built around emulations of the SSL 9000K console architecture, this two-plug-in pairing provides the foundational processing that defines the "SSL sound" - a characteristic blend of transparent control and musical compression that remains industry standard.
The Channel Strip 2 captures the signal chain topology that made SSL desks indispensable in professional control rooms. Its 4-band EQ architecture handles both surgical correction and tonal shaping with equal competence, while the ability to toggle between E-Series and G-Series characteristics adds valuable sonic flexibility. The inclusion of Anti-Cramping technology and external sidechain capability modernizes the classic design without abandoning its core character. The separate compressor and gate sections provide independent dynamics control, essential for taming transients while managing noise without compromise.

The Bus Compressor 2 is the true workhorse here. This plugin recreates the glue that defined countless platinum records - that characteristic ability to bind disparate tracks into a cohesive stereo image while adding subtle harmonic coloration. Its transparent yet musical compression response has proven difficult to replicate convincingly, making SSL's approach particularly valuable.
The bundle suits both newcomers seeking legitimate professional tools and experienced engineers who want SSL's signature sound without hardware investment or studio space constraints. While other console emulations exist, few match SSL's credibility in this domain. For mixing workflows that prioritize proven methodology over novelty, this remains an essential acquisition.
