About this plugin
SSL Native Drumstrip consolidates the core processing chain required for professional drum mixing into a single, reorderable plugin. Built on SSL's decades of mixing console heritage, it combines five specialized processors designed to address the fundamental challenges of drum recording and mixing.
The plugin's architecture reflects practical studio workflow. A dedicated gate handles mic bleed and room noise without the surgical precision required of general-purpose gates, while a transient shaper provides transparent control over attack and sustain characteristics. Separate high and low-frequency enhancement tools offer surgical presence and tightness without the coloration of broad EQ. The centerpiece is SSL's listen mic compressor, modeled after the legendary SSL 4000 E console - a processor that has defined the sound of professional drum records for four decades.

What distinguishes Drumstrip is the flexibility to reorder these five stages. Rather than imposing a fixed signal flow, SSL recognizes that drum processing often demands unconventional routing - compression before gating, for instance, or enhancement tools positioned strategically within the chain.
Drumstrip addresses a specific need: engineers seeking cohesive, characterful drum processing without deep plugin menu diving. It works equally well on individual tracks, bus groups, or parallel compression chains. The sonic character skews toward clarity and control rather than coloration, though the listen mic compressor imparts the subtle harmonic warmth SSL is known for.
This is most useful for producers and engineers working across commercial music genres where professional drum presentation is non-negotiable, particularly those already familiar with SSL's sonic signature.
